Operation "Offspring" 10th August 1944

"Offspring" was the largest aerial mine laying operation by the Royal Navy Home Fleet of World War 2, mining the approaches to Norwegian Fjords to deny the German Navy there use. (2 sorties). Avengers from 852 squadron HMS Nabob, along with 846 Squadron Avengers from HMS Trumpeter. Seafires, Hellcats and Fireflies from the fleet carrier HMS Indefatigable to provide fighter cover for the Avengers. One Avenger was lost from 846 squadron and 4 aircraft from HMS Indefatigable. Several German Bf110's shot up, a barracks destroyed and one small minesweeper sunk.


Operation "Goodwood" the Tirpitz strike

 22nd August 1944

Same aircraft and crew as Operation "Offspring" to lead 852 squadron HMS NABOB attack on the Tirpitz, to lay mines along the side of the battleship layed up in Kaa Fjord Norway.
But due to bad weather the mission was delayed. Later that day Nabob was torpedoed by U-354 in the Barents sea North of the Arctic Circle.
