852 Squadron


852 Naval Air Squadron History 

Formed with Avenger aircraft on 1st November 1943 at Squantum U.S.A.

From the 2nd to the 10th of February 1944 the squadron flew across the USA via Texas to San Francisco to embark in HMS Nabob. Carried out A/S patrols on passage to New York arriving on the 19th of March.

23rd March to 3rd April on passage to Liverpool transporting US aircraft (Mustangs) aboard HMS Nabob

6th April squadron disembarked to Machrahanish Scotland.

26th June embarked in HMS Nabob in the Clyde area.

1st August joined the Home Fleet and carried out mine laying operations in the waters off Norway. Operations "Offspring" and "Goodwood".

22nd August HMS Nabob torpedoed by U-354. Non essential personnel transferred off to awaiting Frigates.

10th September embarked in HMS Trumpeter for further anti-shipping strikes and mine laying off the coast of Norway

4th September 4 aircraft transferred  to HMS Fencer for mine laying off the Norwegian coast.

17th October Squadron disbanded.
